Clare and I met some friends in Manhattan on Tuesday. We spent most of the day in Central Park—at the zoo, at the carousel, and just having some fun at a playground. There’s so much to do in the City and so little time in one day—but we did make it to the American Girl store too.

Today Clare saw a best friend for the first time in almost two months. I took the girls to a playground with all new equipment including this climbing “web.” We all had a great time.

Shifting Skies (Summer Photos Day 12)

Clare’s Mom took this picture on Sunday night. The sky was actually clear for much of the weekend (for a change), but I really liked the look of this photo. And I hope that the long spell of rain we’ve had is finally ending.

Clare and I played “soccer” in the driveway again. It didn’t end well though. Playing barefoot, I scrapped my toe against the pavement on the last play and ended up with some scraped off skin and a bloody digit. Clare’s Mom suggested that I post a picture of it with the title Sunday Bloody Sunday. I didn’t think anyone wanted to see a picture of my bloody toe.

The sun finally shone all day today. Naturally I had to enjoy it, so I got Clare to mow the lawn.

Just kidding. I mowed the overgrown lawn, but Clare asked if she could help. She’s only seven. I didn’t ask my Dad if I could help until… Actually, I don’t think I ever asked to help.

I let Clare hold onto the mower with me for the last strips of grass to mow. Clare’s Mom was taking pictures. I stepped back for a moment so that someday when Clare is a teenager, we’ll have photo proof that, once upon a time, she actually wanted to help.

Too Little, Too Late (Summer Photos Day 10)

The sun peaked through the clouds tonight to give us this glimpse of sunlight in the backyard just before sunset. But the rest of the day had brought heavy rain, lightning, hail, and even a possible tornado to Connecticut. Of the ten days since Clare’s last day of school, eight have seen rain. At this point, I’m even tired of complaining about it.

Smiling (Summer Photos Day 9)

This happy face at our CSA farm wasn’t the only smile today. For the first time in weeks, it didn’t rain. We didn’t go rain-free all day though because of thunder storms around 11 pm. If the daylight hours are sunny and rain-free though, I’ll take it.

I love Clare of course, but a guy can only take so long of playing Ponies, Pollies, Barbies and Littlest Pets. We have been to the library and even to an arcade, but school’s been out for a week and we still haven’t been able to get outside and be really active. Please, please, PLEASE let it stop raining soon!

We visited my aunt today on her eighty-seventh birthday. The roses for her are from our garden.

I didn’t take a picture yesterday. Clare and I did get out for a while to go to the library and to get some ice cream, but I forgot the camera. And it rained. Again.

The rainbow is from this evening just before sunset. After it rained. Again.

Father’s Day (Summer Photos Day 5)

Clare, Clare’s Mom and I  spent most of Father’s Day on the go. Our afternoon was a birthday party for a special aunt of mine who turns eighty-seven on Tuesday. And, of course, it rained.

When we came home, the grass was soaked, but Clare and I kicked a soccer ball around in the driveway. In that short amount of time with her, I had a great Father’s Day.
