No, not finally as in a new post. FINALLY as in there’s life in the yard after this winter. I just noticed these in the front garden yesterday. I think I can smell real spring weather coming.
Am I Dumber than a Second Grader?
March 1, 2009 at 2:27 pm | Posted in Quotes by Clare | 3 CommentsEach year around the first of March, I start to get excited that spring is coming. I know that it could snow right into April—especially here in New England—but it’s that hope that warmer weather is not so far off that gets me through these last days of winter.
This morning, when Clare remembered that it’s March, I asked her a question.
“What happens in March?” I asked.
“I don’t know.” She gave me one of her stock answers.
“Sure you do,” I said. I thought maybe she’d say St. Patrick’s Day, but I was hoping for the first day of spring. “Think hard. What starts in March?”
“The iditarod?”
I looked it up and she’s right. The race starts March 7. This kid knows too much.
We Should Have Stayed There
March 1, 2009 at 2:20 pm | Posted in Vacations | 2 CommentsWith over a foot of snow forecast to fall in the next day, I sure am wishing that we never came home from the Caribbean in January.
Here, finally, are some of my favorite photos from that trip. More details are in my post on UpTake. Check it out and add the site to your reader if you haven’t already.

In Key West, we saw Duval Street, the Southernmost Point, and Hemingway's first home on the island.
