Ho ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Sure it’s pretty.  But it’s not so nice to drive in.  And if a white Christmas grounds us in Connecticut on Christmas Day, I’m going to be very very upset.

Holiday

I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve stopped reading.  In fact I might be surprised if there’s anyone still here.

Three months ago I moved this blog because I wanted a little more privacy and wanted to redirect it toward its original purpose—as a blog of memories for Clare.  I guess I got my wish because blog traffic has taken a bigger drop than the stock market.  That’s mostly my own doing though.  Although the concept would dumbfound professional bloggers, I haven’t made any efforts to promote this blog at all.  Before traffic fell off a cliff like Wile E. Coyote, I even turned away a couple of potential advertisers.

I guess I knew that I’d have less time to give to this blog too.  Clare’s being in The Nutcracker has kept us busy—especially over the past couple of weeks.  I’m also deep into programming for the spring and summer at my job.  And then there’s Christmas, plus a vacation coming up that Clare, Clare’s Mom and I have been waiting two years for.

I’ve even been slacking at my new travel blogging job at UpTake.  Please ask Whit not to fire me for Christmas.

It also bothers me that I haven’t been reading your blogs.  I hate to do this, but I may have to just skim over a few posts and clear the feed reader.  It’s only going to get worse as the month goes on.

What I’m leading to is this.  For the rest of the month, I’m giving myself a blog holiday.  I’ll try to keep up with some reading, I’ll probably post a couple of pictures, but I’m not going to worry about writing anything substantial (like I have recently anyway, right?).

If your month is just as busy, take some time off.  I’m sure your family and friends need you more than the blogosphere does. And if you don’t make it back here in the next week or so, I’ll wish you a happy holiday season and a fantastic new year right now.  I’ll be thinking of all of you from the Caribbean.

Naked Barbies

These naked Barbies have been hanging out in the bathtub with Clare.  I think they all look kind of like they’re doubled over and about to throw up.  Someone totally needs to hold back the hair on that third one from the left.

She did it!  The Nutcracker was fantastic.  I have to admit that it’s pretty great to have such a well-established ballet in this small town that I often complain about.  No detail is overlooked even when it comes to the youngest children in the cast.  The hair and make-up are carefully done, the costumes and sets are first-rate, and their choreographers are professionals. The older children and adult dancers were good of course, but Clare and her eleven other Christmas Tree Angels were undoubtedly the best.

One show down.  That’s three more to go.

Wordless Wednesday: Nutcracker Season

Some kids have soccer season.  Some have baseball or skating season.  Around here, for the past two months, we’ve had Nutcracker season.  I even got roped into seven hours of helping to load-in the Nutcrakcer set this past Sunday.  That’s right—seven hours just to get the set on stage—this school takes its Nutcracker seriously.

For Clare, two months of two rehearsals each week (plus a regular weekly ballet class) have led to a fuller schedule of rehearsals this week.  On Saturday, Clare will make her pas de deux debut at a local theater.  (It’s actually a pas de douze with eleven other young dancers playing angels, but I liked how pas de deux debut sounds.)  She’s also performing on Sunday and next weekend at a larger theater in Hartford.  She’s a little nervous, but mostly really excited.

Wish her well.  (I’m not sure if “break a leg” applies to dance too.)  I’ll have a review after the opening.
